Barbells & Beef is an organization dedicated to promoting health and human flourishing through lifting weights and eating animal protein.

Strength, One Steak at a Time.

We sell athletic apparel and accessories while donating a portion of the profits to small-scale farmers and ranchers across America. As one hand washes the other, you can support the producers of the natural foods (especially beef!) that power your workouts.

We’ll help you hit that new squat PR and look good doing it, and if we end up creating a healthier society along the way that’s a nice bonus. 👍

The Iron Element

And yet the results of physical fitness are the direct opposite of those that follow from unfitness. The fit are healthy and strong… many help friends and do good to their country and for this cause earn gratitude; get great glory and gain very high honours, and for this cause live henceforth a pleasanter and better life, and leave to their children better means of winning a livelihood.

– Xenophon, Memorabilia

Socrates knew (if you believe Xenophon) that physical fitness is crucial to living a virtuous life.

In the intervening 2400 years we’ve produced mountains of scientific evidence that backs up Mr. Socrates’s opinion:

And if you’re looking to train for strength we know the most effective method: high-quality compound movements using free weights, most especially barbells. Squats, presses, cleans, deadlifts; if you’re not already occupying a squat rack then you need to start (although we won’t judge if you sneak in some cable curls every now and then).

WE ARE WHAT WE EAT

Strength is the foundation for a good life, but proper nutrition is the foundation for strength. To get the most out of your workouts and reap the benefits of your time in the gym you need to supply your body with the right stuff.

Unfortunately modern diets are often not fit for purpose, being too high in carbohydrates and sugar while deficient in protein and healthy fats. Even among the health-conscious it is difficult to avoid the excessive amount of unnatural chemicals and additives that permeate the food landscape: check the list of ingredients on a typical “healthy” snack at your grocery store and stop when you have difficulty pronouncing the words–you won’t get far.

It’s vital that you consume a healthy diet of high quality proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, and the best way to do this is to get it from the source: small-scale and regenerative farmers and ranchers. The benefits are many.

If you’ve been to a farmer’s market, you know the satisfaction of shaking hands with the person who produced the food you’re eating. Barbells & Beef is proud to support these families and organizations while supporting your quest to get jacked. It’s a win-win!
